Funding Recipients

Below is a list of groups or organizations that have received funding from PPHC:

  • M.S.A.D #68 – Provided funding to assist teachers a guide called “Fit Families Forever” a resource for parents containing a variety of exercises and nutritional recipes.
  • M.S.A.D #4 – assisted with the purchase of health related resources for the school’s library.
  • Town of Milo – Provide funds to renovate the tennis courts at Elm Street Tennis Field and for Tobacco Free signage.
  • Abaris Club of Guilford – assisted with the grading, re seeding, the installation of playground equipment, and Tobacco Free signage at the Don Osbourne Memorial Playground.
  • Central Maine Trails for Alternative Transportation – provided funding to repair decking and side rails and install Tobacco Free signage on the Four Season Adventure Trail that spans from Guildford to Newport.
  • M.S.A.D #41: assisted in the development of a weight loss support group for staff at the Milo Elementary School
  • Piscataquis City and Water Conservation District – distributed funding for a summer camp that provided nutrition information to children.
  • Town of Abbot – provided funding to create an outdoor community track around the playground at Abbot Memorial Playground.
  • Maine Audobon Society – assisted in the resurfacing of Borestone Mountain’s trail system and implemented Tobacco Free signage.
  • American Legion in Milo: disseminated financial support to repair and expand the existing basketball court in Milo to include equipment, fencing, landscaping, and Tobacco Free Signage.
  • University of Maine Cooperative Extension- provided assistance to fund a nutrition program and resources for seniors and low income citizens.
  • Penquis Chamber of Commerce – distributed funding to support the Waterfall Project, a database of pictures and information highlighting hiking to Piscataquis area’s waterfalls.
  • Penquis Cap – provided funding for the creation of a youth Young Entrepreneurs Society.
  • Parents Are Teachers Too – provided funding for a Discovery Day for young parents that provided parent education and empowerment
  • Community Fitness in Sangerville- provided scholarship funding for community individuals who can’t afford a membership.
  • Charlotte White – funded a Quest Fest for youth around outdoor adventures
  • Center Theater in Dover-Foxcroft – distributed funds to the theater to develop a plan for and implement healthy concessions at the theatre
  • M.S.A.D #46 – provided funds to develop indoor walking opportunities in the school and to create a School Leadership Council.
  • Town of Brownville: provided monetary assistance to replace six foot bridges at Pleasant River Walk  and Tobacco Free Area signage
  • M.S.A.D #41 – provided funding to help develop  a 5th grade outing club
  • Mayo Hospital/Chamber Worksite Wellness – provided funding to implement a wellness program for Chamber employees.
  • Town of Dover-Foxcroft – awarded funding to the Town to create a baseball/softball field in Kiwanis Park including Tobacco Free Area signage
  • Piscataquis Region YMCA- purchased healthy food for the programs “Family Fun Night”.
  • University of Maine Coop Extension – supported the “Healthy Beaches” initiative to promote sun safety of children at local beaches
  • M.S.A.D #41- supported the development and implementation of the Healthy Maine Inside and Out project that educated students about the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
  • Penquis TRIAD – funded the Senior Health Safety Fair that promoted active and healthy lifestyle choices for seniors
  • Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft – funded the Every 15 minutes program, a nationally used model that helps students increase awareness of drinking and driving through realistic role-playing.
  • Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency – provided funding for the development of a Pandemic Flu Preparedness Plan for Piscataquis County.
  • City of Bangor – provided funding for the Channel Markers program, a 14 week adventure-based youth leadership program.
  • M.S.A.D #46 – provided monetary support for the School Leadership Council conference that focuses on health and wellness for children
  • Piscataquis Area Community Outreach – purchased a wellness curriculum “8 weeks to wellness” that will be offered to Piscataquis area individuals through Penquis Higher Education and/or Adult Education Programs.
  • Diabetes Nutrition Center at Mayo Hospital – provided funding to offer diabetes education to adults with young children
  • Piscataquis County Sheriffs Office – funded the sheriff’s office to organize and manage Liquor Compliance Checks in Piscataquis and Penobscot counties to liquor retailers for the purpose of ensuring adherence to laws around sales to minors.
  • Cadillac Web Development provided funding to create a Piscataquis Public Health Council website that offers the Piscataquis and Penobscot community with a variety of health and wellness resources.
  • Piscataquis County Economic Development Council – provided funds to renovate the Milo Elementary School playground that included shade trees, bicycle racks and Tobacco Free Area signage.
  • M.S.A.D #68 – provided financial support for a Fun, Food, and Fitness family event at Sedomocha School.
  • Piscataquis Area Community Outreach – purchased an online health assessment tool to offer to local business to assess employee personal wellness as a precursor to wellness program development.
  • Grace for Grace Ministries - funded the “Lifeline Project”, a program designed to provide wellness education and healthy food to targeted recipients for one year.
  • Save Virtues – provided funding for this organization to build an environment for the purpose of training the community to prepare and cook healthy meals.
